Helldivers 2

This one really surprised me. When I game, my preferences lead me in three directions: one with a fantastic story, one that is open world, or one that is single player. It’s best if it’s all three however Helldivers 2 isn’t any of these. I know… SHOCKING!!!

When I first started gaming, my friend started me on WoW: World of Warcraft. It was fun playing with him but then he went and got a good job and left me in that world by myself. When I started having to coop with strangers as a noob, it was only then I realized how toxic gamers can be. I was new and trying hard to learn but they were super hardcore, super impatient, and some were downright mean. I had such a bad experience I swore off of multiplayer games. It’s only been recently that I have a dedicated gaming group of people who have mutual respect for each other regardless of skill level. Now when I go into games I don’t feel alone or bullied because my boys are with me.

It was one of them that got me to give multiplayer gaming another try and he suggested Helldivers 2 because he’s also playing it. The game doesn’t have a clear goal (in my opinion), it is limited open world and while you could play it single player, it isn’t meant for that. It’s multiplayer is where it excels and is an absolute blast when playing it with friends. You are fighting enemies on different planets to spread democracy and liberty and FREEEEDOOOOM! ! ! ! ! throughout the galaxy. That’s it. Nothing complicated at all. If you don’t like multiplayer, you still might want to give this one a try. You’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Trying to impress your girl be like...

This video is only made possible because of a glitch in the game that made it so when you repaired cars they’d blow up. It was in the game for like 4 months before they fixed it. Good times. #StateOfDecay2

The biggest fail in movie making history (to me) is there being a 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, 28 Years Later but skipping over 28 Months Later. Even if they missed the 28th month window, they could’ve dropped it at anytime between the 28th month mark and the premiere of 28 Years Later.

When An NPC Tests Your Gangsta (v2)

I need you to understand how good the world they created in #WatchDogs2 is. This rave has nothing to do with anything, it’s just an occurrence in the game world. But someone spent the extra time to program that one dude coming to mean mug you if you start dancing with them. That’s a level of detail that made this game amazing.

When An NPC Tests Your Gangsta (v1)

Dude… #WatchDogs2 is definitely on my top five games. It was super enjoyable but the game is full of random occurrences in the world like this one, so it’s incredibly spontaneous. Someone had to take the time to program this little side scene in the game and it’s stuff like this (as awful as it is) that made the game immersive and more real feeling to me.

Where You Going?

This might be the first video game Tiktok video I ever did. #StateofDecay2 #ZombiesZombiesEverywhere

South of Midnight

I don’t think it is a coincidence that this game was released just before the movie Sinners, which is also an exploration in the southern, creole mysticism of the black American culture.

I don’t think it is a coincidence that this game was released just before the movie Sinners, which is also an exploration in the southern, creole mysticism of the black American culture. The heaviest part of Sinners, outside of the vampires, was the use of hoodoo by the character Annie to protect them from whatever evil awaited them. (They did not yet know it was vampires. In fact, they thought it was Haints, which is incredibly well used in South of Midnight.) Anyone who plays this game is going to learn about Haints, about Seers, and other lore of those who practice the spiritual arts.

This game is more linear than it is open world, and the story is a good one and an important one to the game. One of the most striking things about it, is though there are characters of all races, this is a uniquely black game. It was one of the only ones I can think of that caters to the black American experience specifically. There are not very many black games, and of the ones that do exist they can often be attributed to black culture throughout the disapora – like Assasins’ Creed: Origins which is based on ancient Egypt. However, this a black American game. In other words, the story that plays out is specific to black American culture and that is super important since we have very few games that are this specific. I really enjoyed it and for that reason I’m giving it a :

Assassin's Creed: Shadow

Assassin’s Creed: Shadow launched today.

Having played Odyssey, then Origins and having started Valhalla maybe two months ago – I am adding this to my list of games I must play, right up there with Assassin’s Creed: Mirage.

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey

What started out as a what I refer to as a cookie cutter game brought to you by Ubisoft turned out to be one of the top ten, possibly top five games I’ve ever played.

Odyssey is the first game from this franchise that I played, and real talk… I was bored to pieces. Then I was talking to one of my gamer buddies (Tylo) and he was like, “keep going.” So after like maybe a half a year I put it back in, and tried it. Still bored. But this time I kept going and almost an hour in, the Title Screen popped up. I thought I was already playing the game, and it turns out I was just in the intro. I was about to put it down again and decided I would go to at least level ten, then I could tell Tylo I gave it a shot and it just wasn’t for me. Then…

One or two missions after the intro the game introduced a mechanic that literally changed the game for me. Out of 10 stars, the game went from like a 4 to a 13. And to this day I have still never seen another game with this exact mechanic, though there are some that are close, none of them comes near the level of fun and satisfaction. Then as you get deeper into the game it becomes super familiar, which is also nice, becasue all of the Greek mythology I studied in grade school – all of a sudden, I was revisiting it. Of civilizations outside of American, I would say that Ancient Greece was the one we studied most closely and spent the most curriculum on, so for me it was an incredible game. Even if you didn’t study Greek mythology or know anything about Greece this game is still a banger and I highly recommend it.

Midnight Mass

Me speaking on a decision Ubisoft made while participating in an online race against around 60 other racers. I don’t recommend it to everyone but for those who like racing, I have had a good time in #RidersRidge. It’s been out for a few years now so you can probably find a good deal on it on the interwebs.

Back maybe a year ago I used to do a stream two or three times a week on Twitch called ‘Midnight Mass.” In the game #RidersRepublic, they hold an event called a Mass Race every half hour (or I think it’s 20 minutes now) where you have to do sections of cycling, flying, and skiing. Since one always occurs at midnight, I would participate in that one and talk about things happening in the world during the race. This particular Midnight Mass my focus was on Ubisoft and an unsustainable model they just adapted that I think will hurt their business tremendously. It, in fact, has caused me to hesitate buying games from them. The Mass Race is usually about 15 minutes total.

Just a regular dude who likes regular things that was trying to find a way to express his interests and decided on creating a website. That way twitter or facebook or whoever does not own the content I post to their sites. My content’s rights remain my own.
